DOLPHINS DEFEAT FALCONS BY 19-13

Victory Gives A.F.L. 13-10 Edge in Interleague Play

MIAMI, Sept. 7 (AP) Taking charge in the first quarter, the Miami Dolphins of the American Football League rolled to a 19-13 victory over the favored Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League tonight. The victory gave the A.F.L. a final 13-16 won-lost record against the N.F.L. in interleague exhibitions.

Leading 10-6 at  half-time, the Dolphins scored the clinching touchdown on the first drive of the third period. Bob Griese hit Karl Noonan with a 20-yard pass and Larry Csonka and Howard Twilley for passes of 12 yards each in a 73-yard march that was capped by Csonka's 3-yard plunge for the score.

Early in the fourth period, Randy Johnson took Atlanta 40 yards to a touchdown in two plays after John Meyers had pounced on a fumble. Johnson passed to Jerry Simmons at the 10, then to Ray Ogden for the score. Johnson also ran for the extra point to cut the Dolphins' lead to 16-13.

But the Dolphins came right back with another long drive, culminating with a 20-yard field goal by Jimmy Keyes.

Charlie Bryant, bolting past the Dolphin secondary into the clear, took a pass thrown by Johnson on a 44-yard touchdown play that gave the Falcons a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

But aided by two costly fumbles by Atlanta's Perry Lee Dunn, the Dolphins surged back. Dick Anderson, a rookie from Colorado, intercepted a pass thrown by Johnson and raced 28 yards to score. Griese's extra-point pass to Noonan put Miami in front, 7-6.
