Unitas Spearheads Colts Over Miami

MIAMI (AP)- John Unitas shook
off a school boy mistake Saturday night and drove the Baltimore Colts to
two touchdowns- one on a 98-yard march- to ignite a 23-10 pre-season win
over the Miami Dolphins in the Orange Bowl.
The 36 year-old Unitas erred on Baltimore's first series and it put the
National Football League champions in a 7-0 hole. His quick, standup
pass to Willie Richardson was picked off by Miami's Jimmy Warren at the
Colts' 17 and Warren sailed untouched to score.
Unitas wasn't down for long after Jim Duncan returned the kickoff 54
yards to give the great quarterback field position at the Miami 44. He
hit a key 11-yard bullet to big John Mackay at the Miami 11 on a
third-and-eight situation.
The 14-year NFL star then looped one to Jimmy Orr from eight yards for
the tying score. Orr, in a maneuver made famous by Baltimore great
Raymond Berry, tip-toed to stay in he end zone on the catch.
Miami's Larry Seiple put the Colts in a gaping hole when the former
Kentucky kicker sailed a 65-yard punt to the Baltimore two. Unitas urged
the well-oiled Colt machine 98 yards for another touchdown.
Unitas hit a 32-yard pass to Ray Perkins to get elbow room. He later
found Preston Pearson for 19 and Richardson for 25. The fleet Pearson
climaxed the long march by skirting right end for the final seven yards.
Miami rookie Karl Kremser kicked a 36-yard field goal, but veteran Lou
Michaels found the range from 23, 1 and 13 yards when Unitas 'saw his
drives stall.
Baltimore won its fifth preseason game without a loss and Miami
continued to have the worst mark in all of pro football with 0-5.

Baltimore's
Preston Pearson is stopped after short gain.
