LIONS TRIUMPH OVER BILLS

Eddy, Fair Get Touchdown Each in Pro Debuts

DETROIT, Aug.14 (AP) Nick Eddy and Mel Farr, Detroit's all-America speedsters making their pro debuts, slipped and picked their way through the Buffalo defense to night, giving the Lions a 19-17 victory over the Bills in an interleague exhibition game.

The Lions' flashy duo made much of the difference in the way the Lions played against the Bills and the way they had played against the Denver Broncos nine days ago when they became the first National Football League team to lose to an American League team.

The Lions’ triumph gave the N.F.L. a 2-1 edge over the A.F.L. in their I6-game exhibition series.

After Farr scored the first touchdown in the first quarter on a 38-yard pass play from Milt Plum, Eddy scored for the first time as a pro, running back a punt 75 yards for a touchdown later in the quarter.

That gave Detroit a 13-0 lead and the Bills never caught up. Garo Yepremian added a pair of field goals for the Lions on boots of 11 and 16 yards.

The Bills closed to within 2 points in the last 90 seconds when Tom Flores threw his second touchdown pass, a 7-yarder to Art Powell, but the Lions then ran out the clock.
