49er Field Goals Top Raiders, 13-10

Davis' Two 13-Yarders and Brodie's Passing Decisive

OAKLAND. Calif. Sept 3 Tommy Davis kicked two 13-yard field goals and John Brodie passed for a late fourth-quarter touchdown to day as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Oakland Raiders, 13-10, in the first interleague exhibition game between the teams.

The victory gave the National Football League a final 13-3 margin over the American Football League in preseason games. A crowd of 53,254, a Coliseum record, saw the game.

George Blanda, the Raiders’ 39-year-old quarterback, figured in all of his team's scoring. He put the Raiders ahead, 3-0, with a 29-yard field goal, capping an Oakland drive the first time it got the ball. Then, with 32 seconds left in the contest, he threw a 41-yard scoring pass to Fred Biletnikoff.

But between those scores, Davis had booted his two field goals and Brodie had clicked on a 6-yard scoring pass to Dave Parks. Davis's second field goal and the 49er touchdown were set up by breaks. Kermit Alexander of the 49ers intercepted a pass by Blanda on the San Francisco goal and returned it 43 yards to set up his team’s second scoring drive.

Davis kicked the field goal after Brodie, who had three of 15 passes in the first half, connected with Dick Witcher for 20 yards and Parks for 27.
