Hadl, Lincoln Lead Chargers by Saints, 10-7

SAN DIEGO (UPI)- John Hadl and Keith' Lincoln led a 70-yard third quarter touchdown drive to give the San Diego Chargers a 10-7 exhibition win over New Orleans Saturday night. Hadl passed 18 yards to Gary Garrison and 19 to Willie Frazier for first downs in the 9-play drive while Lincoln made a key eight-yard run and scored the touchdown from the 4. The Saints blew a chance to tie midway in the fourth quarter when Jim Murphy missed a 16-yard field goal. The Saints had driven from San Diego's 38 to the six after Dave Whitsell intercepted a Hadl pass for the second time in the game.

Tony Baker was thrown for a three-yard loss on third and one to force the field goal try. The Saints had gone ahead 7-3 early in the second quarter after a 19-yard punt return by Elijah Neitt put the ball on San Diego's 29. Passes by Bill Kilmer to Baker and Dan Abramowicz reached the 2 and Baker circled left end for the score.

San Diego's only other score came on a 10-yard field goal by Dennis Partee in the first quarter.

Marty Domres, the Chargers' top draft choice, quarterbacked one ineffective quarter behind the second string offensive line. Hadl played the rest of the way and completed 11 of 18 passes for 129 yards.
