The Records

The records recorded on this page are not verified.  They are, to the best of my knowledge, accurate.  If there are any corrections that need to be made here please do not hesitate to e-mail me by clicking HERE.  I have not included all the possible records.  I have chosen more significant records, which is based purely on my opinion.

The official NFL records reflect only the games which were played from 1971 on (post-merger).  This has always struck me as a little strange.  One of the points of agreement when negotiating merger was that the records of the AFL were to be recognized.  But, I have never understood why the records from the NFL's Pro Bowl games prior to '71 were not included in the current Pro Bowl records.  And, although the AFL records are to be included, they clearly are not in the current record system. I have always thought that the records of players like Johnny Unitas and Jim Taylor should rightfully be included.  When the NFL notes that there are players who have won multiple Pro Bowl MVP awards, they always mention Unitas. This list, then, include significant records dating from before 1971.  Therefore, they will not match the records that are produced annually by the NFL.  In regard to the AFL records, I have added the significant records in green when they surpass the existing official record.
