AFC 10

NFC 6

February 1, 1987

The 1987 Pro Bowl was the lowest scoring game in the history of the event. The game at Aloha Stadium was attended by 50,101. The coaches were Joe Gibbs of the Redskins and Marty Schottenheimer of Cleveland.

On the last play of the first quarter, John Elway hit Todd Christensen with a 10 yard touchdown pass. It would prove to be very important as the game wore on and the defenses took over. In the second quarter, the AFC built its lead to 10-0 on a Tony Franklin 26 yard field goal and led 10-0 at the half. Both of the AFC's first half scores were set up by fumbles by rookie punt return specialist, Vai Sikahema of the Cardinals.

In the second half, the NFC defense, led by Reggie White of Philadelphia, controlled the AFC and gave up no additional points. But, the NFC could only manage to score a field goal in each of the final two periods. Morton Andersen hit from 38 and 19 yards. The final score was 10-6.

White tied Mark Gastineau’s Pro Bowl record with four sacks and also contributed seven solo tackles. He was named player of the game.
