Oklahoma Fight Song

TEMPE, Ariz., Dec. 25 (AP) — In a case of the bully beating up on the new kid, a powerful Oklahoma offense, buoyed by Elvis Peacock's two touchdowns, rolled over Wyoming, 41-7 today in the Fiesta Bowl. Fifteen different Oklahoma players ran the ball, amassing 415 yards while needing only five pass attempts to earn vindication for losing to arch-rival Nebraska in the regular season finale.

Wyoming, which lost one fumble and five passes on interceptions, was unable to get any offense generated after being smothered most of the day by the eighth-ranked Sooners, who did not have to punt once. Oklahoma ended its season with a 9-2-1, won-lost-tied record and Wyoming finished at 8-4.

Peacock, a halfback, set the stage for the Sooner onslaught, scoring the first touchdown on a 3-yard run in the opening period. That capped an 80-yard opening drive, in the nationally televised game, played before a crowd of 48,714. Peacock's second touchdown came in the third-quarter when he took a pitchout, ran 15 yards around right end, and made the score 27-0. Wyoming's only points came with 22 seconds left, when Robbie Wright scored on a 1-yard plunge at the end of a 92-yard march.

A leading rusher for the Sooners was their quarterback, Thomas Lott, who was named the game's most valuable player. He carried the ball 13 times for 79 yards. Oklahoma's other touchdowns were scored by Horace Ivory and Woody Shepard, halfbacks, and George Cumby, fullback. Ivory gained 54 yards rushing and scored the Sooners' second touchdown on a 4 yard run with 3:22 left in the opening quarter.

Uwe Von Schamann got the Sooners' other points in the second quarter, booting field goals of 32 and 50 yards for a 20-0 halftime lead. The 50-yarder broke a Fiesta Bowl record of 43 yards set by Mark Uselman of Brigham Young in 1973.

Cumby and Shepard are reserves who entered the game in the fourth quarter. Cumby scored on a 4-yard run and Shepard on one of 8 yards. Oklahoma gained a total of 436 yards. Terry Peters, an Oklahoma cornerback, was named the outstanding defensive player. He intercepted two passes.
