AFC 15

NFC 6

February 7, 1988

The scoring drought continued in the 1988 Pro Bowl. The game was witnessed by 50,113 at the Aloha Bowl. The coaches for the two squads were Marty Schottenheimer of Cleveland and Jerry Burns of Minnesota.

The first quarter was scoreless and the NFC got on the board first with a 25 yard field goal by Morten Andersen of the Saints in the second quarter. It was the third Pro Bowl in a row that saw a Morten Andersen field goal. Anderson would account for all the NFC’s points on the day. Following Cleveland’s Hanford Dixon’s interception of a pass by San Francisco’s Joe Montana, Jim Kelly of Buffalo led the AFC on an 89 yard drive starting at his own 11. Kelly carried the ball in himself from 1 yard out to give the AFC the lead 7-3. The second Andersen field goal from 36 yards, made the score 7-6 at the half.

The second half belonged to the defenses. In the third quarter, Dean Biasucci hit field goals from 37 and 30 yards out to give the AFC a 13-6 lead. The final score of the day came as Joe Montana stepped out of his own endzone for a safety while trying to pass. The final was 15-6.

Bruce Smith of the Bills was voted the game's most outstanding player with five tackles and two sacks.

Buffalo's Bruce Smith was the MVP in a defensive struggle.

Jim Kelly led the AFC to their only touchdown.

Morton Anderson had all the NFC points for the second year in a row.
