Terry Bradshaw, with only two years behind him, already has started to
blossom, beginning to grow into the product expected when Pittsburgh
made him the No. 1 draft selection after his college career at Louisiana
Tech.
The department in which Bradshaw has been most impressive thus far,
according to the scouts' reports, is leadership- and he was rated 5 at
this early juncture in his career. The 6-foot-3, 218-pounder also was
rated above average in throwing ability with a 4.
His showing in those two departments, as a matter of fact, has been so
impressive that people are beginning to ask what happened to Terry
Hanratty, who battled Bradshaw on virtually even terms just a year ago.
But Bradshaw is anything but a finished product, with low marks in
reaction under pressure, despite his obvious ability to run effectively,
and reading defenses. Indications are that Bradshaw has not progressed
significantly in either department since he joined the Steelers.
There is no doubt that in grabbing the reins of leadership Bradshaw has
taken the first giant steps toward what the scouts feel will be an
eventual arrival as one of the NFL's outstanding quarterbacks.
In order to do that, however, there will have to be a breakthrough in
those two departments in which there has been little improvement.
