With
Jack Concannon lost for the season, the pro scouts had to have their
arms twisted somewhat to reveal their ratings for the two other Chicago
quarterbacks- Bobby Douglass and Kent Nix.
Douglass is a left-hander, a 6-foot-4, 228-pound product of Kansas with
three seasons behind him who has shown a tendency to run with the ball
when he should be throwing it.
Nix is a five-year journeyman, a 6-foot-2, 198-pounder who previously
was with Green Bay and Pittsburgh. He has given indication at times that
he possesses ability but never has been a consistent performer.
Whether either has any significant future remains in doubt if the
scouts' hesitant ratings are any indication- for neither gets a mark
higher than 3 in any category. Whether that indicates their true
potential or represents a lack of evidence by which to accurately rate
them remains somewhat in question.
Douglass is a strong runner but the scouts obviously are unsure of his
throwing ability, rating him at 2. Nix, who was a Steeler hope before
the arrival of Terry Hanratty and then Terry Bradshaw, is rated a notch
better at 3.
If either has a significant future, it probably is Douglass- if his
assets can be channeled properly, for he is the big, strong, mobile type
whom many feel will be the prototype of the quarterbacks of the future.
