The
Philadelphia quarterbacks are Pete Liske and Rick Arrington. The word on
Liske is in, which gives Arrington hope. The question is whether
Arrington gives the Eagles any.
Liske, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound product of Penn State whose career took him
to Canada and Denver before he joined the Eagles, just doesn't have an
arm that the scouts feel is of NFL caliber.
The eight-year pro, who will be 30 when the 1972 season begins, gets 3’s
in every category except throwing ability, in which he was awarded a
shockingly low 1. That doesn't guarantee much success.
There is not enough evidence in hand for the scouts to get any feel of
Arrington's ability. Signed as a free agent before the 1970 season,
Arrington obviously wasn't highly rated when the 26 NFL teams went to
the draft table.
Arrington has the necessary size at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds and was a
throwing quarterback in college at the University of Tulsa. But he has
seen too little action for the scouts to appraise his chances of
success, particularly with a team of the Eagles' caliber. Arrington,
however, does have one thing going for him that Liske doesn't. He hasn't
yet proved he can't handle a first-string job. Unfortunately, Liske
already seems to have convinced the scouts of that.
