Kramer graduated from college at Rice University in 1977. Kramer was
selected as the 27th pick of the first round by the Minnesota Vikings in
the 1977 NFL draft. Kramer became the starting quarterback for the
Vikings before the 1979 season after Fran Tarkenton had retired.
Kramer and the Vikings won four NFC Central Championships in 1977, 1978,
1980 and 1989. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 1986
season, in which he was the highest rated quarterback in the NFL. Kramer
was the first NFL quarterback to throw for over 450 yards in a game
twice, and he once threw six touchdowns in a single game against the
Green Bay Packers.
He went on to play 13 years for the Vikings. He was released by
Minnesota after the 1989 season, but was signed by the New Orleans
Saints during the 1990 season. For his career, Kramer completed 2012 of
3651 passes for 24777 yards and 159 touchdowns. He also scored 8 rushing
touchdowns. He played briefly for the Saints and retired after 1990.
